Lady Gaga shared a photo of herself proudly rocking her smeared eye makeup following her emotional moment.

However after her return to the charts this week, Lady Gaga revealed that she’s still getting pharmaceutical help – having admitted to taking medication for with mental illness after her 2013 album.

‘I needed a moment to stabilise,’ she told the Daily Mirror of her overwhelming rise to fame. ‘When my career took off, I don’t remember anything. It’s like I’m traumatised. I needed time to recalibrate my soul.’

And while she deems her fame ‘the single greatest blessing of my artistic career’, the Grammy-winning superstar continues to take care of herself behind the scenes.

‘I take medication,’ she said. ‘I’m not saying I feel good because of the medication – I wouldn’t encourage young people to take anti-depressants or mood stabilisers. I admit to having battled depression and anxiety and I think a lot of people do.’

With the release of her new chart-topping single, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of her as-yet-unnamed album.

And the musician has revealed in an interview with the Daily Star that the record will cover many areas of her personal life.

‘I’ve been betrayed by all types of people in my life and thought an illusion was put out to bait me in some kind of way,’ she said. ‘There’s a lot of rage on the album.

‘There’s going to be a lot of personal things on that record that are written through the lyrics and the music.’

She recently implied that her latest single is based on her lost love with actor Taylor Kinney in the wake of their summer split after a five-year romance.

‘It is about love; of course it is,’ the 30-year-old told The Sun in London on Sunday when asked about the meaning of the single, the first release off her forthcoming fifth studio album.

She said the song – which features a chorus bellowing, ‘It wasn’t love, it wasn’t love, it was a perfect illusion’ – delves into dynamics found in ‘all kinds of relationships’ men and women have, both romantic and otherwise.

‘I think it’s both sides: it’s not really from the woman’s perspective, this song. It was important to me that men, when they heard this song, felt connected to women even though the song is essentially about a barrier between us,’ said the singer, who had a major hit centered on love life woes with 2009’s Bad Romance.

In the chat, Gaga revealed that while ‘it’s not that easy to meet new people,’ she still makes friends, but ‘it’s just not like it used to be.’

The Manhattan native said the single delves into people’s perceptions that ‘so many fake things that are around us appear to be real,’ as ‘it’s almost impossible to decipher anymore what is authentic and what isn’t.’

The song also touches on how social media has had a warping effect on the way people interact with one another, according to Lady Gaga.

‘You’re scrolling through social media or going through Instagram and you’re overloaded with things that are filtered and in a way I believe that that has seeped into personal relationships, dating and friendship,’ Gaga said. ‘So what’s happening is, we’re trying to establish human connections, but we’re doing it through falling in love with a perfect illusion.’

‘So I say in this song, “dilated falling free in this modern ecstasy,” and that’s what Perfect Illusion is all about,’ said the multi-platinum diva, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta.

The singer said she was ‘kind of in shock, to be honest’ upon learning the single had rocketed to the top spot on iTunes after its debut Friday.

‘I think this is the first time in ages that I haven’t been really at all – even the night before – wondering what the song was going to do chart-wise,’ said Gaga, who produced the single with Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker and Blood Pop. ‘I have just been so focused on the music and being in the studio.

‘And when I woke up and saw that, and as the hours went on it went number one, [I was] relieved.’
